Wood Stain Too Orange
My floor finisher used the wrong stain on my newly sanded oak floors, making the color much more ORANGE than I wanted; Nancy, While doing some research on DIY options in changing out Orange colored wood furniture to a darker more Expresso color, I came across your blog.

Choose a gel stain, glaze, or water-based stain if you want a darker finish. Choose a stain that works for you and use the above and a water based poly or re cat lacquer and be happy. We sanded down to bare wood and chose the Wolman F & P redwood stain. I hope you find the right solution for your kitchen, good luck. Cab mfg's use low grade woods and simply paint to look like the wood they advertise. But just the absolute thinnest of coats of wax seemed to be enough to seal the wood to the point where the grain wouldn't soak up the stain in a crazy way, but not seal it so much that the wood was too saturated with wax to soak up stain.
While it is still wet, using a cup gun full of thinner and a tablespoon of green dye, fog it - the red will go brown, but be careful, because it can go green if you lay too much on. I too would finish with a matt varnish to seal to keep them looking good. If you're not sure which one you prefer, ask an.
Take a piece and seal it with just enough sealer to get it wet. Applying wood stain can be tricky, but don't reach for the paint can just yet. 2-4 hours depending on color:
To darken the color, apply a second coat after 2-4 hours (time dependent on color). A darjer shade, as "orange" pine does not get better with age. The main difference between the different types of stains is their texture.
You can mix 2 or more stains together to make DIY custom stains. Going darker is easy enough—just add more stain. These types of stains tend to result in a darker color.
